It was a really great event! Good to meet the people that want to get things started. In the time that I was there felt I got a much better understanding how we can all contribute and get the ball rolling in our areas. I need to go to the local meetings, if there is any, and if there isn't, establish a time and a place for regular meetings to be held and make people aware of the meetings happening. As for the Great Sharing: Should be either a weekly/fortnightly event to share the ideas and action plans and activities organised between one another at local meetings! Definitely! And to help newcomers gain a better idea of how people from different areas can get active, and are getting active. Primarily, I think it's important for people in their own areas who have ideas to meet and share them with one another and make action plans.

Again, Amazing event, really well done for setting it up! I have the photos for the day as well, where should I send them?

If there digital you could email them to info@transitionnottingham.org.uk and I'll make sure there distributed around. otherwise send an email to the info address an I'll give you a land address to post them to.
I think the hub had realised the importance of organising a day like Saturday and we'd have liked to have done it sooner. hopefully it'll be the first of many!

It was a good event.  Although I think every three months would be enough, as it takes time to put ideas into practice.  Having said that, there is going to be another meeting to try and answer 'how best and the hub relate to and support the local groups?' within the next six weeks.

-Tom I left a mssage on your answer phone, Forest Field's next meeting is 2mo at 7pm - sorry for short notice.

Here the notes from the meeting:

Valuing Diversity

Some Ideas that came out of the discussion

Know your communities/ mapping.

Avoid evangelism

Link up local community groups via events i.e. street parties/ picnics.

Is the Transition handbook aware of diversity?

Creating opportunities to make links with B.M.E (Black and ethnic minority) groups. It was said that their priorities of B.M.E. and white working class groups are largely family / community not environmental.

Dealing with Conflicts

Respecting people’s difference, understanding others & patience were seen as inportant factors.

“Think it possible that you may be mistaken”.

Conflict arises whern there’s a lack of listening / communication.

It’s important not to be so anxious to talk that you don’t hear what the other person is saying.

In a conflict situation some may respond with rudeness / critical behaviour: not listening / not responding.

Not responding  to the person who is angry / forceful may be valid .

What’s needed is an understanding of the position of the other person for there to be a learning process in ther communication. And a willingness to respect that even though it be very different to yours.

There may be a danger that fragmentation due to frustration may occur within the group and people may leave after being offended. – (Am sure that this would’n’t happen in most transition groups!

A person may come to the group with another agenda and want this to to be pushed forward

 Cheers, Alex Smiley
