Nichola and I have been discussing the logo and whether the local groups would use it. I sent her this email which explains her later one.

"Because Nottingham is officially a Transition Initiative we can "approve" the neighbourhood groups and to some extent we've already done this. I think we should ask them to at least display the logo as a sign that we have faith in their competance and understanding of the process. It would also save them the trouble of going through the network to become official.
It hasn't happened yet but there is a possibility that someone tries to set up a group who could theoretically bring us into disrepute but if they haven't permission to use our logo or are part of TN we can at least disassociate ourselves from them."

Yes I agree with this. Do the local groups have access/are aware of the criteria for becoming a transition initiative? This might help them organise themselves and provide a focus – kind of like a welcome pack of advice and criteria not very official but something to say they meet this criteria – issuing them with a local logo would help with this.

To answer the question about awareness of criteria I mention this when I talk to local groups. explain that as a hub we've fulfilled them and strongly recomend reading the primer (partly because criteria is there in full). luckily every local group so far has either been made up of steering group members or has had a wide range of people at the meetings and have filled me with confidence. As this may not always be the case maybe we should produce a welcome pack with basic criteria as part of it. Agenda item?
