Transition Sherwood has a set of cards for DIY teach yourself peak oil  available for loan to other groups. This is a short version of the self teaching peak oil talk as described in the Transition Handbook p26. We used it as part of our AGM in September and think it worked well both as general introduction & better but still quite basic understanding of peak oil & the transition movement, and to help people get talking to each other. We did it as a roughly 20 mins activity but it could do with 30 to 45 minutes to cover it better, or could do it as a longer activity with some whole group discussion at the end.

The cards are A4 printed out powerpoint slides mounted on card or corrugated cardboard a bit bigger than A4.  The set is 5 or 6 copies of each of 6 slides, with notes on the back of each slide.  Slides titles are What is peak oil, Oil prices from 1970, Oil is used for.., What's so special about oil?, Can having less oil help stop climate change?, and Transition Towns. Loosely based on Ben Brangwyn's talk available on the Transition Towns website and then work done with the Transition Notts training group early this year. Could also send copy of the powerpoint.  Oil price on the slides last updated Sept 2009.  Contact joancook@btinternet.com
